First Reconciliation and First Eucharist

First Reconciliation is Saturday, December 6

The students who have prepared will receive their First Reconciliation (go to confession for the first time) on Saturday, December 6.  There are two times for this:  9:00 a.m. (for students whose last names begin with A-K) and 10:30 a.m. (L-Z), with some exceptions per request.  Here is the schedule for December 6, regarding who comes at what time.

Parents must accompany the children, and other family members are welcome.  Plan to be there for one hour.  Here is the order of the First Reconcilation Prayer Service.  (This is not a Mass, but is a time of prayer that includes confessions for those present.)  Parents and other family members are welcome to go to confession, too, once the First Reconciliation children have received the sacrament.

Here is the format for First Reconciliation (which includes what the children say in confession, plus an examination of conscience to help them think about sins they may need to confess).

Preparation for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist

At Our Lady of Grace, students in grade 2 and higher may prepare for the sacraments of First Reconciliation (confession) and First Eucharist (communion).  To receive these sacraments at Our Lady of Grace, students in public school and home school must 1) attend Faith Formation classes and 2) participate in the extra retreats, homework, etc., that are a part of preparation for these two sacraments.  Bishop Ryan Catholic School students do not need to attend Faith Formation classes; however, they must participate in the extra retreats, homework, etc., that are a part of preparation for these two sacraments.

The preparation programs begin with orientation meetings for students and parents, with the First Reconciliation orientation meeting typically being held in October, with the First Reconciliation Service in December, and the First Eucharist orientation meeting typically being held in January, with the First Eucharist Masses being held the weekend after Easter.

If you have any questions, please contact Tanya Watterud, Faith Formation Coordinator, via her personal cell phone number, her parish email address, or call the parish office at 701-839-6834.  Thank you.
